BLASPHEMY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

"Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in age to come." Matthew 12:32

This verse seems to scare many believers, when it shouldn't scare them at all. This is because most of them have been taught that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a one-time event, therefore, they'll never be forgiven, and lose their salvation. It's also taught that unbelievers, who do not even know Him, can never be forgiven once they speak against the Holy Spirit, therefore, can never be saved.

Firstly, a believer can never lose their salvation, once someone is born again of God, that can never be undone. A birth cannot be reversed. Once you're physically born of your mother, you will always remain born. Your physical birth and spiritual rebirth have the same concept, the only difference is one is physical, and the other is spiritual. If someone could lose their salvation, then Jesus' sacrifice wasn't a success, and He would have to do it all over again, since there is no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood(Hebrews 9:22).

Secondly and lastly, a person that is still living cannot blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Someone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit, is someone who speaks ill of Him, and never believes, to their death. They cannot be forgiven because, well, they're dead. Salvation is offered to all men who are still living, a person that speaks ill of the Holy Spirit, or against Him, and doesn't believe, can always repent(change their mind) before they die, and be saved, before it's too late.

The Pharisees and Scribes, in Matthew 12:24, accused Jesus of being demon-possessed by Beelzebub(the ruler of demons), using him to cast demons out of a blind and mute man that was demon-possessed for real.

Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”
Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” Matthew 12:22-24

Instead of believing it was the Holy Spirit who helped Jesus cast demons out of the man, they spoke against the Holy Spirit, basically calling Him an evil spirit. The Pharisees and Scribes never believed who Jesus said He was, they were already righteous in their own eyes, proud of their own filthy rags(Isaiah 64:6), so in their mind they thought, "Well, I have no need for Jesus in my life, I'm already holy and righteous on my own, I do everything right." Externally, they were clean, and in their own mind, they thought they were living under the law, perfectly. Yet, in reality, they were still lost, unclean on the inside, and full of corruption. Just like everyone before salvation.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness." Matthew 23:27

They were blinded, self-righteous hypocrites, so it made sense for them to speak against the Holy Spirit, and after their death, it was too late for them to receive forgiveness or salvation because, they never repented(changed their mind) and believed before they died. They still hated Jesus even after the cross, never believing He rose from the dead but instead, believing His body was stolen. They knowingly rejected Him! They chose to be separated from Him, so now, to this day, they are in Hell, and separated from God forever!

So, to my fellow believers, brothers and sisters in Christ, a living person cannot blaspheme the Holy Spirit and be unforgiven, believers definitely can't because they did believe, and are eternally saved! And, to the lost out there, if you ever see this, if you are still living, you can change your mind and believe the Gospel today, and be forgiven of speaking against the Holy Spirit.

As I said above, salvation is offered to all men!

"But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus." Romans 3:21-26
